American Outrage
by Tim Green
Read by Scott Brick
Jake Carlson is an investigative reporter and second chair on American Outrage - a show similar to
20/20 and 48-hours. The first chapter reveals what Jake is up against in playing second fiddle at
his job and dealing with an unhappy teen. His producer is controlled by weekly numbers and lacks compassion for
Jake’s painful circumstances. Jake’s wife recently died of cancer and his adopted son is rebelling. Sam seems like
a strong name for such a vulnerable teen. Sam wants Jake to use his investigative skills to find his biological
mother. Working together, they learn Jake isn’t the only one with investigative skills and Sam isn’t the only one
with a rebellious attitude. Jake and Sam also find out just how creative and focused they can be - when they
aren’t disagreeing.
Jake's suspense-filled journey begins when he returns to the building that housed the overseas adoption agency.
The agency is gone - replaced by a travel bureau. Jake’s investigative skill being second nature, he questions the
woman in charge. He later finds the agency closed, but has a chance to invite the woman for coffee. She seems to
be just as interested in him. Jake’s brush with death begins after he does a little internet search and ground
work. His disappearing acts end up being both a blessing and a curse as the storyline intensifies. As their
movements are limited, Jake and Sam turn to others, only to discover they don’t know who wants them dead and who
wants them alive. Listeners can expect a toe-curling, hand-gripping ride as this unusual team faces shocking
discoveries and deadly outcomes.
Audie winner, Scott Brick, narrates Hachette’s audio version. He has the father/son attitudes down pat. What
starts out as a simple listen, intensifies and takes listeners through tension-filled scenes they wouldn’t want
in their dreams. It’s entertainment screaming to be shared. Remember those headphones. |
