American Outrage
by Tim Green
American Outrage by Tim Green sounds like a non-fiction political tell all from the title, but it is really the
fictional name of the lead character’s tabloid TV show. Jake Carlson is a top investigative reporter, which comes in
handy while pursuing the trail of his adopted son’s Albanian birth mother. Initially he finds the adoption agency
closed down, and upon meeting an intriguing Albanian woman, he is compelled into an all out search for the truth.
His son, Sam, joins him and together the two of them set out to reveal more than a missing person. They soon become
lead characters in their own investigation.
The story begins with Sam in the principal’s office after a fight, leading to his suspension from school. Jake
sees the psychology behind his rebellion, which instigates the desire to find his "real" mother. Dealing with his
show’s lagging ratings, and his producer’s pressure to pursue high intensity stories, he finds himself embroiled in
his own explosive story.
Short chapters set the story’s pace - fast. I found it intriguing and would recommend it to detective story
fans. The father and son love-hate relationship keeps the story interesting and the multiple story lines also keep
the plot fresh. |
