A Stolen Season
Alex McKnight Novel, No. 7
by Steve Hamilton
It has been an unseasonably cold Fourth of July evening in the Upper Michigan Peninsula town of Paradise when
retired cop, Alex McKnight, and his one time partner, Leon Prudell, save three men after a boating accident on
Lake Superior's Waishkey Bay. The next day, instead of thanking Alex and Leon for their rescues, the men accuse
them of stealing a locked box that had been on the boat. Alex discovers the men have been scamming members of the
Bay Mills Indian Reservation out of from their government financed prescription drugs. As Alex closes in on the
dealers, he narrowly escapes death.
His long distance girlfriend, Ontario police officer, Natalie Reynaud, has gone undercover to ferret out
illegal arms dealers who seem to be operating in the Upper Peninsula area. She pays Alex a surprise visit but her
involvement in the arms operation has tragic results.
The setting of the area is perfectly rendered. The author has created an atmosphere of bone-chilling cold. The
plot is full of hair-raising suspense and exciting action. The supporting characters are wonderfully developed.
The plot turns about and double crosses, guarantees a startling conclusion.
Another excellent adventure with Alex McKnight whetting the reader’s appetite for more in the future. |
