Broken Heartland
A Mad Dog & Englishman Mystery #4

by J.M. Hayes

In the fourth story about Benteen County, Kansas, Sheriff English is facing re-election. We find him in the midst of a series of unfortunate events that just might unseat him this time around. Election day brings relatives, including his brother Mad Dog, from many parts to help the sheriff, also known as "Englishman." Everyone has come to help him, based on a premonition, before he lands in trouble or out of office.

With a an array of crimes gone wild, we find Englishman trying to negotiate a hostage situation at the school, while finding Mad Dog has also been taken hostage at a local farm by radicals. Maybe Englishman should rethink re-election after all. J.M. Hayes once again provides a fun, entertaining read with events so frequent and unexpected that you can't put it down.
