The Day Will Come
A Stella Crown Mystery

byJudy Clemens

Author Judy Clemens is back with her fourth mystery featuring lady farmer, Stella Crown. Stella's farm is outside Philadelphia. Stella loves the privacy of country living and running her farm. Each of her dairy cows has a name. Though housing developments are close to her farm, she has so far kept them off her land.

Stella has a friend, Lucy Lapp, who works for her and lives in the farmhouse, along with Lucy's nine-year-old daughter, Tess. Lucy is engaged to Lenny Spruce, who bought tickets to a concert by the Tom Copper Band, a rock group with local origins. Nick, Stella's boyfriend, doesn't feel well, but he and Stella go anyway. During the concert, Nick disappears and has not returned when the intermission comes. There is a delay before the music resumed, but Nick still does not return.

Suddenly, the music stops. The word is given to evacuate the building, because someone has called in a bomb threat. It isn't until Lucy and Tess get outside that they finally find Nick, still sick, but alive. The next day Stella learns that someone has died in the confusion of the previous night. Gemma, the group's female singer, was found dead. Also, the manager of the club is missing, along with the night's money.

Stella finds herself wondering who planted the bomb. Did the same person kill Gemma? Has the manager been kidnapped, or did he leave with the money on his own? What does club owner, Gary Mann, know that he isn't telling? What secret is Nick hiding?

The Day Will Come is well-written and interesting. I found it difficult to put the book down. There were no foul words or sex scenes to detract from the flow of the story. The only violence was a couple of fist fights and a description of Gemma's death. It is one of the better mysteries I've read lately. Pick up The Day Will Come and enjoy! And watch for other mysteries by Judy Clemens. You'll like reading this author.
