Dry Ice
Dr. Alan Gregory Novel #15
by Stephen White
Alan’s patient was covered in blood in the middle of his waiting room. This scene would raise the pulse of any
psychiatrist and immediately he assumes the worst. Come to find out, this was due to a simple nose bleed. It
seemed to be a likely explanation, but he should have trusted his initial instinct, as he would soon realize that
this was the beginning of his life being turned completely upside down.
His wife works in the DA’s office and her key grand jury witness has vanished. Alan later finds the witness’s
purse in his yard, raising questions about his involvement. Then, his best friend (a local cop) informs him that
a dark figure from Alan’s past has escaped the state mental hospital. Things continue to roll down hill. One
event after another follows and Alan finds himself a person of interest in more than one major crime as well as
the target for a homicidal maniac he once kept out of jail. The whole time Alan has to do constant battle with
secrets, both his own and of those closest to him, in hopes that those secrets won’t be used against them with
disastrous consequences.
This is a great read. It takes the author a while to set things up, which seems to keep the story at a slow
pace at first, but about halfway through things pick up and the book becomes nearly impossible to put down. |
