Fire Prayer
Storm Kayama Mysteries #3

by Deborah Turrell Atkinson

Honolulu attorney Storm Kayama had a chance to do an old friend a favor and get herself and her boyfriend, Ian Hamlin, who is also her law partner, a weekend getaway on the island of Molokai. For Storm, it would be a trip home. Her Aunt Maile and Uncle Keone lived and worked on a dude ranch there. It was a place where Storm had spent many happy hours.

All she had to do was check to see if Jenny Williams, ex-wife of friend Tanner Williams, was taking proper care of their twelve-year-old son, Luke. Luke had recently been diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Tanner worried his son's health might be at risk.

After her visit with Jenny, Storm is plunged into a mystery. Luke found his mother dead in the living room of their home. Afterward, he disappeared, but without his insulin. Storm has to find Luke before he goes into a diabetic coma which could prove fatal and she has to find Tanner. If Luke saw his mother's killer, he could be in grave danger. Though Storm didn't want to think so, that killer could be Tanner.

In the meantime, Ian Hamlin is working on a case of his own. He came to Molokai to investigate the disappearance of Brock Liu, the son of wealthy businessman, Devon Liu. The older Liu suspects a popular kayak rental company caused his son's death. Yet, the body of the young heir has never been found. Is Brock Liu really dead? And is Tanner being honest about his concern? After all, he hadn't told Storm about a few important details, such as his bipolar disorder, for which he often doesn’t take his medication. Has it driven him to murder?

Fire Prayer is a mystery that is fascinating to read. It is filled with Hawaiian lore, making the story more realistic. It keeps you engrossed to the end and leaves you wanting more. Read Fire Prayer and enjoy.
