I will be honest with you, I had never read any of Suzanne Macpherson’s books, nor had I ever heard of her, but
now I want to read everything that she writes!
The Forever Summer takes place in Port Gamble, WA, a state near and dear to my heart, as I lived not
50 miles from this location and didn’t even know it existed. Port Gamble is a quaint summer town, populated by
some local "townies," as they are called, but the main business happens in the summer months when the more
affluent arrive for vacation. Lila Abbott is a townie, grew up in Port Gamble, and raised her daughter, Mallory,
in this town.
Now with Mallory away at college, Lila is finding her life a bit boring; that is, until Emily Ruth drops dead
in the local grocery store where Lila has worked for the past 15 years. Maybe this has happened in your local
store, but it’s BIG news for Port Gamble. Emily Ruth was young and in good health. Looks like an
allergic reaction is the cause of death, or is it? Emily Ruth’s ex-husband, Lucas Griffin, is of course the
main suspect, but this book will throw you twists and turns to make you keep reading.
I forgot to mention, Emily Ruth's ghost is trying to talk to Lila and tell her something very important, so
Emily Ruth haunts the store, she haunts the beach house that she lived in, and she haunts Lila. I should also
mention, she is not a nice ghost, but keep reading and you will see why.
As I indicated in the opening line of this review, Suzanne does this right, and you will enjoy this book and
want more from this author. Way to go Suzanne!
