Hex Marks the Spot
A Bewitching Mystery #3

by Madelyn Alt

Maggie O'Neill has a great job at a mystical antique shop where she works for Felicity Dow, who is a witch. She and 'Liss and a group of other paranormal "investigators" work together in a group called N.I.G.H.T.S. which is Stony Mill, Indiana's version of Ghost Hunters.

Maggie has a gift for being able to "feel" things about certain spots, and with spirits. She also dates Deputy Tom Fielding of the Stony Mill Police Department, who really has a tough time with the "woo-woo" aspects of her life.

But when the extremely handsome Amish carpenter, Luc Metzger, is murdered, Maggie finds herself hip-dip in the mystery, working with the members of N.I.G.H.T.S. and her erst-while boyfriend who's been charged with the investigation for the non-woo-woo side of life.

Luc was married and had children, and while he was trying to be a virtuous husband, it's clear that he'd had some trouble with that. Thus his wife, who comes with her own bit of mysticism courtesy of her Pennsylvania Amish community, is a suspect.. Luc's farm is noted for hex symbols, meant to protect his family. But some think that his wife may have used her "hexes" to perhaps do harm to the husband who strayed.

To complicate things even more for Maggie, Marcus Quinn, whom she believes to be her boss's boyfriend, has been making definite overtures to her of the decidedly not platonic kind.

As Maggie tries to find out the truth, she comes to believe that Hester (Luc's wife) was in no way involved. But who would want the man dead if not the woman he had betrayed?

The story leads back through the maze of people for whom Luc had worked, and ultimately to one who had wanted more of him than he was willing to give.

This is a great book in a series that clearly has some serious legs on it. I look forward to reading more.
