High Crimes
by Joseph Finder
Claire Heller Chapman, a well-known attorney, is trying to prepare for the biggest case in her life, the defense
of her husband in a military court. However, Claire is being told that her husband, Tom, is really not who he says
he is. Claire is forced to have her trust in a wonderful husband and step-father questioned and compromised. Who
really is Tom Chapman and if the police are right in who they say he is, why is this coming up now?
Joseph Finder has done a remarkable job of mixing Criminal and Supreme Court with Military Court. The complexity
between the courts is shown wonderfully throughout High Crimes. Readers probably never realized how different
the courts’ systems could be. The characterization of Claire Heller Chapman is rich and in-depth. This reader
cannot imagine what I would do if I were in the same situation. The complexity of the situation is detailed well
through what Claire does and the effect it has on her sister and daughter.
This reader was not thrilled by the ending but understands why it was written the way that it was. High
Crimes is a great suspenseful legal thriller that keeps the reader thumbing page after page. |
