Marked Man

by William Lashner

Philadelphia attorney, Victor Carl, wakes up to a big surprise-a tattoo on his chest. The tattoo was an old-fashioned heart with the name Chantal Adair inscribed in it. The interesting thing is that Victor does not know a Chantal Adair. Victor is set to try to figure out who Chantal Adair is and why her name is tattooed on his chest but he has been hired by someone who has been running from the law who has their own mystery. Are these two mysteries related? Will Victor ever find out who had him tattooed?

Marked Man is filled with little twists and turns that make for an exciting mystery. The initial reaction to having this known lawyer being tattooed when in a drunken stupor seemed a little far-fetched but William Lashner does a good job in developing much more of the story.

The characterization of Victor Carl is priceless. He is a sarcastic lawyer who is trying to make his private business successful by trying to help out all kinds of clients, including those who cannot pay their fee.

Overall, Marked Man, might seem to not work at first, but as each page turns, it becomes more exciting and enjoyable to read.
