Moonblind
Gail McCarthy Mysteries #9
by Laura Crum
Santa Cruz horse vet Gail McCarthy is back for a ninth outing in this book. This time, she is seven months pregnant
and her job is taking a backseat as she prepares for the birth. But her racehorse trainer cousin Jenny has found
her beloved dog dead from poison and believes somebody is stalking her; can Gail help? Of course she can, soon
there is a human body and the race is on to find out whodunit, before it is too late.
If you like horses then this "equestrian mystery" will appeal. I advise you read the other books in the series
first, however, as this is book nine and it shows; great for a series, bad for anybody who just picks the book up.
Gail’s pregnancy fills many pages, so I cannot comment on what she is like when at work and under normal
circumstances, but I applaud any series where the characters are allowed to change and grow. There is plenty of
mystery to enjoy, and although I am not a horse person myself, the background made an interesting dimension to the
plot, and I didn’t feel dazzled by jargon. Also in its favor is its modest length (under 200 pages!) and at the
end, I felt I had been admirably entertained. |
