Murder Unfolds
A Stain-Busting Mystery

by Sharon Short

Josie Toadfern is about to turn thirty. To celebrate, her friends surprise her with a birthday trip. Do they take her to New York, Paris or even Dallas? No, they go to the Great Walleye Drop in Port Clinton, Ohio!

A few days before the big event, Josie is scheduled to give a speech at the opening of the Pearl Oglevee Regional History Collection. The collection was donated to the local library by one of Josie’s junior high school teachers who died a few years ago. Josie is Mrs. Oglevee’s most successful student. Therefore she was given the honors. There’s just one problem. Josie didn’t like Mrs. Oglevee and neither did anyone else.

Josie tries her best to find something good to say about her former teacher. When that well turns up dry, she attempts to find something interesting to say instead. That’s another big fat zero. She finally resorts to just quoting Mrs. Oglevee’s vital statistics.

Just before the beginning of the most boring speech in the history of the world, Josie is handed an envelope. Hoping for a last minute reprieve, she opens the note. It claims that Mrs. Oglevee was murdered and that the woman bearing the note is her daughter, Eileen. Anxious to ask questions, Josie turns to talk to Eileen just in time to see her disappearing out the door. After the speech, Josie tries to track down Eileen but she’s vanished.

Coincidentally, the Great Walleye Drop takes place in Mrs. Oglevee’s hometown. Josie decides to combine her birthday trip with a little sleuthing. Not much turns up, but when Josie is attacked, her determination to get to the bottom of this mystery deepens.

This is a continuation of a series but can be read as a stand alone as well. The deceased may not have had any friends, but she had a ridiculous number of distant family members, each of whom is named in the book. This makes it very hard to keep track of who’s who. Had there been fewer names to keep track of, this would have been a more enjoyable book.
