Precious Blood
by Jonathan Hayes
In his first novel, Jonathan Hayes introduces us to retired New York City Medical Examiner Edward Jenner. The
murder of a young college student, roommate of a friend's daughter, forces him out of his sheltered life and
back into the world of reality and a serial killer. A life in the world of criminals and dead bodies he tried to
leave behind after 9-11. A life he's not so sure he's ready to deal with again.
With acute attention to detail, the story is graphic and compelling as well as horrifying. Jenner comes into
contact with Ana, a witness to her friend's crucifixion. While trying to help the police solve the case Jenner
realizes that there are connections to other unsolved murders. With relentless pursuit he also strives to find
the meaning of cryptic symbols he finds burned into the bodies. Jenner is certain these symbols hold the answers.
When he finally makes the right connections it might be too late for Ana or himself, as the serial killer has
decided that the time has come to find Ana again. There will be those who loose "Precious Blood" in
pursuit of this monster on the streets of New York City.
This story is filled with such detail and attention to the surroundings that Mr. Hayes has the ability to
make you feel as if you are witnessing the very thing he describes. A gift not all authors can get across
through words alone. His characters are so defined that one would hope to see them return in another book.
Let's hope that Jonathan Hayes plans just that. |
