Rapid Fire
A Raine Stockton Dog Mystery #2

by Donna Ball

Raine Stockton is a busy woman. She is a part time ranger at the Long Branch Range station in the Smoky Mountains. She has a flourishing business at the Dog Daze Boarding and Training Facility. Then there is her on-and-off again marriage to Deputy Sheriff Buck Lawson. Her busy life is disrupted by a visit from the FBI looking for Andy Fontana, an old flame of Raine. The FBI wants Raine to contact them should Andy get in touch with her. Andy is on the run from a ten year old charge of bombing a petrochemical plant, which killed 4 four people. The FBI suspect him of returning to the Smokies to retrieve a cache of diamonds hidden in the wilderness. Andy will allegedly use the diamonds to fund a Mid-East terrorist organization. They believe he is responssible for the recent crime spree in the area. Raine believes in his innocence. With the help of her golden retriever, Cisco, she must find the guilty party to clear Andy.

This is a quick read with fast-paced action and a solid plot. The characters are interesting with human qualities. Raine is a fully developed character, being stubborn, loyal and resourceful. The story gives the reader a taste of what living in a small mountain town is like.

There is abundant dog lore with hints of dog training thrown in.
