Shoot from the Lip
A Yellow Rose Mystery #4

by Leann Sweeney

Abby Rose is a private investigator. After her father’s death, Abby found out that she and her sister, Kate, had been adopted illegally. This led her to founding the Yellow Rose Detective Agency. She helps adoptees find their birth parents and vice versa. Sometimes the reunions don’t go as planned, and this is where Kate comes in. She’s a shrink. She evaluates everyone who asks for help before Abby agrees to take them on as clients.

One day Abby opens her front door to find the assistant producer of a reality TV show standing there. The show is filming in town and they want Abby to be a consultant.

The show’s deserving recipient is Emma Lopez. Her abusive mother abandoned her when she was just a kid. She has been raising her three younger siblings ever since.

The show received a letter nominating Emma for a life makeover. It told how her mother had a baby, and then the next day the baby was gone. Five years later, Emma’s mother abandoned the rest of her kids, and hasn’t been seen since. The show wants Abby to find the baby for a live on-air reunion. Abby agrees to talk to Emma.

Emma was excited when she found out that she would finally be able to provide a decent house for her siblings. That was before she read the letter.

Emma never told the younger kids about their baby sister. Now they are going to find out on live TV. The producers don’t care about the family’s pain. They only care about one thing... ratings. The show must go on!

And it does go on. With cameras rolling, the old house is demolished and a horrifying discovery is made - buried underneath the foundation are the bones of a newborn baby.

This is an interesting story with very likable characters. I look forward to reading more of this series.
