Cecily and the Pennyfoot staff have returned. This is the third Pennyfoot holiday mystery. The story opens with
decorations going up and guests arriving. Earlier, Cecily sent Samuel and Baxter out to collect greenery. When
the horse and carriage returns with a body, chaos breaks out in the Pennyfoot kitchen. Only the staff is aware
of the dire circumstances. As usual, this loyal staff keeps all worries and problems hush-hush.
Once Cecily realizes Baxter isn't able to return, and the local constable has decided to pass the case on to
Scotland Yard, Cecily tries to solve the murder of the man in the carriage and find clues to Baxter's
whereabouts. It's a case out in the cold with plenty of hot clues and twists to keep Cecily warm.
One thing I noticed following this series is that previously Baxter worried about Cecily each time she took
a case. Since the marriage of butler and lady of the manor, the tables have turned. In the previous episode,
Cecily dealt with Baxter and a lady friend with secrets. This time Baxter disappears, feared lost and dying in
the snow. Well, it doesn't matter who's worrying or who's in danger because they always have the loyal Pennyfoot
staff for backup - and a bit of humor.
Likable characters, charming surroundings, and eclectic guests
continue to make this an enjoyable series. Bravo, Kate Kingsbury
and Berkley Publishing, for making this a holiday tradition.
