The Sicilian Conspiracy

by Michael Sammaritano

In his publishing debut, Michael Sammaritano takes us into the workings of the Mafia in an alternate history.  The Sopranos brought the modern mafia to the attention of today's Americans and stirred up our interest. Now Sammaritano gives us a different view of the complex personalities of the Sicilians that make up that segment of society.

Don Saverio Cremona was forced to quit college after his father's assassination and assume the leadership of the "family."  Don Saverio is an ambitious man and he has a plan to reform the Mafia to its original ideology. He's a patient man and he's prepared to wait as long as it takes to see his master plan come to a satisfactory conclusion.  He wants to control America's destiny.  He plans to send a group of gifted, well educated and loyal young men to America to infiltrate the country's many corridors of power and reform the mafia.

Ray Greco is the leader of this group and he takes Don Saverio's dream to America in a novel filled with action and a complex, multi-level plot.  Ray doesn't always see eye-to-eye with Cremona, and a blood feud develops that upsets the balance of power and costs many lives on both sides of the feud.

The honor that is the credo of these Sicilian boys frequently must be preserved by violence and that seems to be a normal part of business, but the new world calls for a more corporate and less violent course of action.  The Mafia, after all, is a business that is just going about obtaining wealth.

The complex characters, devious motives, and twisting plot about loyalty, revenge, honor, corruption and redemption make this action packed family saga a very entertaining read with realistic action and dialogue. I think Sammaritano has found his niche in the writing world.   I would like to see more from this promising author.
