Sins of the Fathers
Family Tree Mysteries, novel #2

by Patricia Sprinkle

Katherine Murray, 46 year old mother of two grown children with time on her hands and nothing to occupy herself, wonders what she is going to do in the long stretch of years until her husband Tom's retirement. So when her friend Florence Gadney, "Dr Flo", a retired college professor, asks her to accompany her to Bayard Island, McIntosh County, Georgia, she doesn't hesitate. Dr Flo has answered an ad in the Savannah newspaper asking descendants of a Claude Gilbert who was buried in McIntosh County in 1903 to contact an attorney. Dr Flo isn't sure whether Gilbert was one of her ancestors but she wants to find out. Burch Bayard, a developer, wants to build on the property where there is a small cemetery and he needs permission to move the graves. According to law you can't move a grave in Georgia without authorization from the next of kin. So Katherine and Dr Flo set out to confirm that Flo's ancestor is buried there. They meet much hostility and then murder before they unearth the secret buried in the past (no puns intended!).

This is a fast moving story with a strong plot. There are many interesting characters, both good and nefarious. The genealogy search is intriguing. The locale of the Georgian island is interesting, as is its history.

A quick read which will hold the reader's interest as the story unfolds.
