Witch Hunt
Ophelia and Abby Mystery #4

by Shirley Damsgaard

Ophelia Jensen is a small town librarian, but more importantly she’s a psychic. Her grandmother, Abby, is a witch. She’s the one who taught Ophelia how to use her powers. Now, Ophelia has a foster daughter, Tink, who’s a medium, and the cycle continues.

Life is pretty quiet in Summerset, Iowa, until El Serpiente roars into town. This notorious motorcycle gang has taken over a bar just outside of town. There are rumors of drugs and prostitution, but with no proof, the law can’t touch the gang.

On a happier note, Ophelia’s best friend, Darci, is getting ready to celebrate her birthday. An added bonus: Darci’s cousin, Becca, is coming to town to help celebrate. They haven’t seen each other in three years, but you wouldn’t know it from the way Becca acts at the party.

Becca spends the evening hanging all over Adder, one of the bikers. Then when Darci and Ophelia aren’t looking, she slips out the door with him. Frightened for her, the ladies search the area hotels trying to find the couple. Exhausted, they finally give up and head for home several hours later.

Pulling up to Darci’s house, they see Adder’s motorcycle in the driveway. Fury and relief fight for dominance as Darci rushes in the door. Once inside she stops in her tracks. Adder is dead, and Becca is leaning over him holding a bloody knife!

Becca swears she doesn’t remember a thing before waking up holding the knife. Darci believes her, but the police aren’t convinced. They arrest Becca, and Darci asks Ophelia to use her psychic abilities to save her cousin.

Against her grandmother’s advice, Ophelia agrees. Then one of the bikers begins threatening Ophelia. Instead of making her back off, the threats just make her more determined to see justice done.

This is the latest in a series. It can also be read alone. The mystery is interesting and the characters likable. This was a good book, and I look forward to reading more of this author’s works.
