Dyer Consequences
Fifth in the Knitting Mystery series

by Maggie Sefton

Dyer Consequences is Maggie Sefton's fifth installment in her Knitting Mystery series. Each book revolves around freelance CPA Kelly Flynn and her knitting cohorts at House of Lambspun, a knitting shop across her driveway. This one finds Flynn in the last few months of a frozen Colorado winter and facing vandals who seem to be targeting her cottage, her garage, and even her beloved yarn store. But when a fellow knitter who was learning how to make custom dyes is found dead over a vat of Aztec Blue dye, Flynn begins to wonder if it was more than a burglary gone bad that turned to murder.

Flynn tries to stay out of the way of the police, but like most amateur sleuths, she just can't help herself and manages to keep in the thick of things when she's laid up with two injured ankles - one broken and one badly sprained.

Even though I read this book in a summer that has taken a long time coming, and really wanted to not even think about snow for a while, I was drawn into this cozy mystery. There were a lot of angles to this one, helping the author to keep me in the dark about who did it until the very end, making for a very enjoyable read. There were no sudden rabbits being pulled out of the hat. Sefton had laid careful clues, but her story just kept me going in other directions. As with many cozies, I was introduced to interesting characters I began to care about. And, I also learned a bit more about knitting. This book not only came with a knitting pattern for a hat, but also included a tasty Pecan Pie recipe with butter crust, no less.

If you haven't discovered Sefton's Knitting Mystery series, check out this book and the others in the series. She also started a Real Estate mystery series about three years ago, but the characters in her knitting series have demanded, she says, to have their stories told. And, their stories are just so much fun!
