Mary DiNunzio, a member of the law firm of Rosato and Associates, hopes to become a partner. She has grown up in
the Italian-American section of Philadelphia and still lives there close to her family.
She has a visit in her office from Trish Gambone, formerly from St Marie Gorelli high school. In high school,
Mary was a nerd and Trish a member of a group known as "The Mean Girls." Trish pleads for help in dealing with Bobby,
her boyfriend, a mobster who beats her. Trish is afraid he will carry out his threat to kill her. Mary recommends
the police and court and a restraining order. This is not what Trish wants and she storms out of the office.
Shortly thereafter, Trish vanishes, and The Mean Girls blame Mary for not protecting Trish. Mary feels guilty
and, at a risk to her job, sets out to find what happened to Trish. In the meantime, she meets Anthony, a handsome
bachelor who is reported to be gay. She finds herself attracted to him and at ease with him, the first time she has
felt that way with a man.
Lady Killer is an entertaining book with a tightly knit plot.
The action is constant with challenging thoughts about friendships
and loyalties. The encounters with Mary's Italian-American family
and circle of friends add a refreshing and entertaining tone to
the story. It is like meeting old friends once again.
