Benni Harper is the curator of San Celusa's Folk Art Museum. She
presently is coordinating the Memory Festival which is a celebration
of recollections through crafts, quilts scrapbooks, photographs
and history. A local policeman is wounded; the target of a sniper
who has a vendetta against cops. Benni is concerned that Gabe, her
husband, the police chief may be a target. She is also concerned
that Gabe is showing signs of post-traumatic stress through nightmares
about his time in Vietnam. A strange woman appears showing a great
interest in Gabe, making Benni suspicious of her motives. On a lighter
side Gamma Dove and her sister are trying to "help" Benni's
father with his love life.
This is an enjoyable quick read with a cast of likeable human characters.
There is much information about the history of Quilting, its patterns,
the art of making a quilt...almost tempts the reader to try to make
one! The plot is well developed with enough questions to keep the
reader on his (hers) toes.
