Jessica is on vacation in Italy where she joins up with a tour
that takes her to a variety of wonderful places. Her peaceful time
is interrupted when a couple of gunmen steal a painting off a church
wall, killing a retired policeman in the process. She agrees to
help identify the crooks at a later date should they be caught.
She returns home and puts is all behind her.
Months later, the step-son of a woman Jessica was friends with
years ago, Wayne Simsbury, shows up on Jessica's doorstep. Wayne
is very upset because his father, a wealthy Chicago businessman
and owner of a very large art collection, has been murdered and
Wayne's mother is a suspect in the murder case. Not knowing what
else to do, he has searched out Jessica - the one person his mother
always said could help out with any problem.
Now Jessica must travel to Chicago to solve what seems to be an
open and shut case, plus she must also travel back to Italy to help
the police make their case against the church bandits. But now Jessica
finds herself in danger when it begins to look like the two cases
are connected.
Once again Jessica keeps you on your toes with her quick wit and
sharp mind. There is never a dull moment and you can't put it down
until you reach the end. I love these books as much, if not more,
than I loved the TV series. I love the way they are written in the
first person. If you love mysteries that keep you guessing right
up to the end, then you'll love this one. Donald Bain seems to have
a magic pen when it comes to writing these books. I hope there are
many more.
