Heads YOU Lose is a collaborative effort by authors Lisa Lutz and editor David Hayward. The story begins when Paul and Lacey Hansen find a corpse on their property; a headless corpse to be precise. Paul and Lacey are brother and sister who live together in a house in North Carolina. The larger problem is that they cannot call the cops because of their indoor garden. Their crop is pot. Uh-Oh!

Getting rid of the corpse isn't exactly easy. Even more worrisome is when the corpse reappears on their land. Like a bad penny it just keeps turning up. There's got to be more going on with this dead guy than meets the eye. Paul and Lacey will have to figure this out for themselves, so they set out to do just that.

Authors Lutz and Hayward take turns writing chapters. It makes for engaging reading and some good chuckles at their notes to each other as Lisa and David, commenting on each other's writing styles and foibles. The story of Paul and Lacey is a down and dirty mystery, and the author's notes add a strong comedic element.

I laughed a lot while reading this book, and often found myself reading passages aloud to my husband. If he wasn't around, I read aloud to my cats. It's simply the type of book you want to share with your friends so they can laugh too. My cats didn't laugh, but nor did they leave the room, so I had a willing audience.

Lisa Lutz is the author of The Spellmans series of mysteries. David Hayward is a freelance editor and poet. They have been paired professionally and personally in the past, but this is their first book together.

Reviewer Laura Hinds is the author of Are You Gonna Eat That Banana?
