As a self-proclaimed cozy mystery lover, I’ve previously enjoyed this series very much. I reviewed the last book Flipping Out for recently.

Unfortunately I didn’t love Wall to Wall DEAD as much as I had hoped to. While the murder mystery was interesting, and the characters well developed (for the most part), I was let down by the main character, Avery Baker, inflicted with a very strong case of TSTL. TSTL stands for too stupid to live and is usually associated with female protagonists who throw themselves in harm’s way when they should know better. Avery became a busy-body along the likes of the first murder victim, spinster Hilda Shaw. To call Avery a nosey parker would be accurate but too mild a term, as she followed suspects into unknown and dark places.

Even as she knows she shouldn’t chase leads and a killer on her own, she somehow justifies it to herself time after time. I found this trait quite annoying.

As Avery and fiancé Derek work to renovate a condo for a quick profit, one murder turns into another, and it seems almost every neighbor might have a reason to be guilty. I had the killer pegged immediately and was not surprised by the motive. Oh how I wish this novel had been less about painting Avery as a reckless heroine, who refused to listen to her fiancé or anyone else, and more about Avery thinking twice about letting the police do their job.

If you are a fan of the series, do buy this book. There is something very special at the end. I’m happy I got to read the book for that reason anyway.
