James
Patterson and Marshall Karp bring us a thriller I did not
want to put down. This one is set in New York City.
The Hollywood on the Hudson celebration is the mayor’s
pet project. All sorts of Hollywood producers and stars will
in town as the mayor and other city officials try to convince
them to do more filming in New York instead of Los Angeles.
It is very important that nothing go wrong.
NYPD Red is charged with the task of seeing that everyone
is safe, a tall order for a week filled with parties, meetings,
movie filming and more parties. The red carpet is out and
ready, but so is the Chameleon.
The Chameleon has a vendetta against Hollywood. They have
ignored him and his talents, relegating him to roles as an
extra, never even giving him one line! Then, he submitted
an idea for a movie, which they rejected. Now, they’re
making a TV series out of it, but giving him no credit!
When a produce dies at breakfast, Zach Jordan and his partner,
Kylie MacDonald, are assigned to the case. Will they be able
to stop the Chameleon? Then, there’s his girlfriend,
Lexie. How big a role is she playing in his “movie?”
This is one story I found I didn’t want to put down.
The characters are human, though the Chameleon tries hard
to be superhuman. The plot is not impossible and is full of
unexpected twists. Readers Edoardo Ballerini and Jay Snyder
do an expert job as the story shifts back and forth between
points of view, that of Zach Jordan and the Chameleon.
