It’s safe to say that anyone
who knows me knows that I love books and delight in a good
mystery novel. I was fortunate enough to have been chosen
to review “A Killer Read,” the first book in the
Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery series, and was very pleased
to have “Read and Buried” make its way onto my
review reading list. I feel as though I got the inside scoop
on a fantastic new series and am so happy to share my thoughts
with MyShelf.com readers.
Read and Buried features Lizzie Turner, reading specialist,
tutor, and member of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and
Cheese Straws Society. Lizzie meets visiting author Derek
Alton, and he agrees to come and speak at the next book club
meeting. It’s too bad he’s a cad who is stuck
on his own self-importance. As he questions Lizzie, prior
to the event, he tells her that he wants to prepare to speak
to the group and tailor his speech to their interests. Lizzie
wonders why he wants to know so much about the group members,
but before she can express her doubts, a shot rings out and
Derek is dead. Dead in her own living room!
Suspicion is in the air and Lizzie and the other book club
members heed a call to action to find out just who Derek was
and what secrets he had hidden. As in the first book, Lizzie
is torn between sleuthing and toeing the line, listening to
her boyfriend, police chief, Mark Dreyfus’ admonitions
to stay out of it.
