Mim’s Whims hat shop is making hats for the Alice in Wonderland charity tea given by the Grisby family to honor the family’s late patriarch. The money raised will go to building a new hospital wing in his name. Of course the shop’s owners, Scarlett Parker and Vivian Tremont, have also been invited to attend the tea.

The Grisby sisters are annoyed that brother Geoffrey has inherited the entire estate and it looks like he is not going to share. He is a bully and tells his sweet wife Tina she must be defective since she is still not pregnant. Mother Dotty is well… rather dotty. It is amazing that they are able to pull this tea off……or do they?

Everyone is seated at the table and waiting for tea - everyone except for Geoffrey and Tina. Scarlett goes looking and comes across Geoffrey face down on the ground. Inspector Finchley comes by Mim’s Whims with a search warrant. It seems Geoffrey was poisoned and traces of the poison were found on the hat made by Viv. Scarlett will not let the police investigate the murder without her help. She had better be careful investigating or all that remains ….will be her smile.

Things to ponder: Who did Scarlett hear giggling in the Grisby Hall garden? Is Tina having an affair? Just where was Tina when her husband was murdered? Is Viv seeing anyone special? #TeamHarrison.

This light frothy mystery is filled with humor. I found myself laughing out loud in places. The author has provided us with plenty of suspects. This is the type of mystery that once I start – I can’t put down. I enjoyed this well-plotted whodunit. I thoroughly adored the charming cast of characters. The backdrop of London helps make this mystery a delightful read. I can’t wait to see what hats Viv dreams up in the next Hat Shop Mystery. So if you like a mystery that is thinly veiled, then you should be reading Death of a Mad Hatter.
