Carly Bell Hartwell is a talented white magic witch and empath who owns and runs the "Little Shop of Potions" where she sells healing potions. Her abilities include the unfortunate "gift" of not only being able to see spirits on and around Halloween, but to feel what killed them. As a result, it's up to Carly to help the spirits resolve their murders by unmasking the killers so the spirits can pass over before the between-world portal closes on November 3rd.

This year, however, the spirits are amongst the least of her worries. You see, her twice-almost and possibly future mother-in-law, Patricia Davis Jackson, has been arrested for the murder of Haywood Dodd, who was killed at a costume ball where he was set to make a big announcement.

Juggling the supernatural with the all too human foibles and tragedies keeps Carly on her toes. Fortunately, she has a good support system in her family and her boyfriend, Dylan. Will they be enough to keep her feet on the ground as she hurries to find a killer and get a few ghosts to cross over before they run out of time and have to remain earthbound for another year? Will Haywood Dodd's real killer be found in time to spring Patricia Davis Jackson before she's tried and convicted?

Once again Heather Blake has delivered a spooky-funny-friends and family fueled, dynamic and engaging Paracozie, destined to be a favorite among mystery readers.

Blake's stories are always entertaining, and her unique characters continue to evolve in a satisfying fashion. For me, a new Magic Potion Mystery, released just in time for Halloween is the best treat of the season!
