Former reporter Sunny Coolidge
returns to her journalistic ways in Hiss and Tell, as she
collaborates with Ken Howell, editor of the Harbor Courier,
the local paper, and her former boss/beau Randall MacDermont
of the New York Standard to cover the upcoming nuptials of
Priscilla Kingsbury and Carson de Kruk. The couple is from
powerful families with money and politics running the show.
When a guest at the Kingsbury estate is killed, the reporter
stint Sunny agreed to evolves to that of embedded local reporter,
providing a colorful blog about the wedding plans, with her
actual mission being to help uncover the killer before he
can strike again. Naturally, Sunny's brilliant cat, Shadow,
stows away in her suitcase and provides some much needed assistance
in solving the case.
This is one of my favorite series, and I enjoyed Hiss
and Tell very much. There is one peccadillo that bothered
me some. The author shared Sunny's thoughts quite often, and
somewhat overused the concept of Sunny's “irreverent
alter ego” and similar terminology. It wasn't enough
to annoy me, but as a huge fan of this series, I hope that
in the next book this is less noticeable.
Mystery lovers who enjoy a cozy, small town story, with a
lot of local color, interesting characters, and a fantastic
feline can't go wrong with Hiss and Tell, the fourth
entry in the Sunny and Shadow series. This is a great beach
read, or perfect for a day relaxing in a hammock with a cold
iced tea.
