The Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straw Society
is busy, as usual, but things have been peaceful and quiet
for awhile. Alas, peace and quiet never lasts, and once again
murder is afoot! Not only that, retired police chief's Bob
Miller is surprised by the sudden appearance of his granddaughter,
Darla, who shows up at Molly Matthew's house.
The murder victim knew Darla, but just how well, and how
does she factor into this mystery? To make matters even worse,
the vic was found in Molly's backyard. The book club has to
band together to make sense of the crime and find the culprit
before anyone else falls prey, and before someone innocent
takes the blame. The who, what, why, when and where's of the
case hold some interesting clues.
I've enjoyed this series from the beginning, and am delighted
with this latest instalment. It's fun to read about the character's
relationships as they change and mature, and the addition
of new folks in town helps the series to grow.
There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing,
and the mystery is so well plotted that I couldn't figure
out who the killer was until it was revealed. If you love
a good murder mystery set in a small town, and characters
who love books and cats, you'll enjoy "Law and Author."
