Laura
Childs, along with Terrie Farley Moran, bring readers number
thirteen in the Scrapbooking series. In this mystery, a wedding
becomes a funeral.
While Carmela'
scrapbook shop Memory Mine is celebrating weddings, Carmela,
her boyfriend, detective Edgar Babcock and Galpal Ava work
to solve the murder of Isabelle Black, a bride-to-be murdered
in the Lafayette Cemetery. When things get heated, Gabby wants
Carmela to stop investigating, but Ava (and her criminal mind)
is all game for a break-in.
Carmela's ex-husband
Shamus returns with a dose sweet talk for Carmela and insults
for Babcock. Babcock really gets upset with Carmela when she
keeps information from him and breaks the law. Is this relationship
heading towards the rocks? Thankfully, the author balances
murder and character frustrations with humor as we witness
Ava hustling her quota of good looking men and having conversations
with Carmela that only BFFs can have.
Once again, Childs
gives readers a satisfying armchair whodunit with characters
immersed in New Orleans' local life. Visiting Memory Mine
in the Big Easy is a yearly event I still enjoy. Be sure to
check out recipes and crafts at the back of the book.
