Since Ella Mae Le
Faye has been preoccupied with rescuing her mom, business at
The Charmed Pie Shoppe has been going downhill. Everyone seemed
to have the winter blahs. Ella Mae needs to infuse her baking
with a dose of magic that will make everyone perk up. She also
needs to find a way to break the spell cast on her mother.
Ella Mae and her friend, Suzy, attend a party at Rolling
View. The Gaynor family might have a copy of the book she
needs to break the spell. Ella Mae becomes friends with one
of her magical kind who is a ballerina. They plan to meet
the next day in the enchanted grove. When Ella Mae arrives
she finds Eira frozen to death.
Things to ponder: Could Hugh be one of the Shadow Children?
Is Ella Mae letting a murderer stay at Partridge Hill? Will
Ella Mae and her nemesis, Loralyn Gaynor, be able to solve
the murder?
I found
the beginning of this book a little slow going, since this
is the first book I have read in the series. Once I found
what I call the “rhythm” of the book, I zipped
right through it. I plan on reading the first two in the series.
This turned out to be a fun, fast read. I also enjoyed the
recipes the author has provided. So if you like your mystery
sprinkled with magic, then you should be reading Pecan
Pies and Homicides.
