Olivia La Belle stars in a popular
wedding planner TV show set in Dallas, Texas, and is known
for berating her associates, even ruining more than one person's
career. Andrea Kendricks knows all about Olivia's bullying,
for the Olivia terrified Andy when they were prep school buddies.
When Andy finds Millicent Draper, owner of Millie's Cakes,
next to Olivia's body, and holding a bloody cake knife, she
believes Millie's claim that she found the knife in Olivia's
throat and tried to save her. Andy and her mother have known
Millie for years and are certain the elderly baker is innocent.
Andy's sexy fiancé, lawyer Brian Malone, handles Millie's
case and secures her release.
With the help of her Texas high society mother, Cissy, and
her reporter friend, Janet, Andy sets out to prove Millie's
innocence. Andy questions Olivia's sidekick, Terra, investigating
Olivia's past business dealings. Unfortunately, the more dirt
Andy uncovers in Olivia's past, the more people she discovers
who have good reasons to want Olivia dead. Andy just has to
ferret out the killer.
Say Yes to the Death is my first foray into Susan McBride's
Debutante Dropout series, and the author's wonderful humor
and engaging, well-woven plot had me hooked from the first
page. I loved Andy's relationship with her mother and, although
Andy wants to be her own person, she soon realizes that Cissy
only wants the best for her. Andy's fiancé, Brian,
is a real charmer, and their obvious romance was excellently
portrayed. The author included several secondary characters
that wove additional threads of intrigue and suspense throughout
this outstanding plot. The opening wedding sequence had me
in stitches, and the humor laced throughout this solid mystery
kept me entranced until the very last page. In short, I loved
it!
