Lucy Richardson is a librarian at the Bodie Island's Lighthouse Library. She even gets to live upstairs in the lighthouse, along with library cat, Charles! Lucy loves her job and has fantastic co-workers who are also her good friends. Over the course of her time at the library, she's been directly involved with solving some murders. There are even a couple of handsome men in her life, although she's got to let her heart make a decision on one of them, and soon.

Things have settled down nicely, and after a staff party to celebrate her boss, Bertie James', tenth anniversary working at the library, Lucy settles down with a book and Charles for company. From her window alcove, Lucy notices some odd lights and what is obviously a small boat in trouble during a windy storm. She dials 911 and reports it, learning the next day that there were two survivors from the small shipwreck. Sometime later, a body is discovered on shore in another boat. A victim of the storm or a victim of something more sinister? Murder?

I enjoy this series very much, and hope that there will be several more books to come. Eva Gates writes in a smooth, flowing manner. The characters are quite true to life, and the situations realistic. The protagonist, Lucy, is a strong and smart woman, not prone to flights of fancy, nor to putting herself directly in the path of danger without a plan for backup. She's a very loyal friend as well, and when her friend, Stephanie, is suspected of murdering her recently discovered father, Lucy knows she is innocent and sets out to prove it. Will she unearth enough clues to figure out who the killer is before the killer strikes again?

Reading up a Storm is an excellent weekend read, especially if you've got a good storm going outside so you can settle in and read all day. As with previous books in the series, I believe this would be a good book club read. It's fine as a stand alone, but I've really enjoyed getting to know Lucy and her cohorts more and more in each installment. If you enjoy a mystery setting with a library, the ocean, a lighthouse and a library cat, you will unquestioningly love this book! Get your copy today!
