Everything
seems to be under control for the Read Em and Eat bookshop
cafe owners, Sassy Cabot & Bridgy Mayfield, as they embark
on wrapping up another successful book club season with a
field trip to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. But murder
is the last thing on their minds when they find the bus driver,
Oscar, murdered after the conclusion of the field trip. And
to make matters worse, it seems the cops are looking to Bridgy
as the guilty party.
I admit,
even though I have the first two books, this is the first
of the series I have read. While you don't have to read the
books in order, this can be read as a standalone, I would
suggest to start with book one. I know at times I wished I
had read the other two first so I knew more about the backstory
and didn't feel lost when certain characters acted a certain
way. But with that being said, this book was a thoroughly
enjoyable read, as I imagine the first two are as well.
The mystery
was a good one and the end really did surprise me! I found
this book to have a lot of humor in it and found myself laughing
out loud on many occasions, especially when Sassy and Bridgy's
moms show up to be with their girls in time of crisis. Between
Ophie's sky-high heels that she totters around on and having
to run interference between Ophie and her sister, Bridgy's
mom, the laughter never ends.
Overall,
Read to Death was a beautifully descriptive written
book that transported me right to Fort Meyers Beach, Florida,
and kept me hooked and laughing all the way through. And don't
forget to check out the yummy recipes at the end of the book!
