A
skier’s discovery of a single boot on the slopes of
Star City, Utah, brings Clare Henry’s best friend, police
officer Jodie Wentworth, called in to investigate. The body
is found and his identity discovered: Lloyd Gavin, who went
to high school with Clare and Jodie. Lloyd was extremely shy
and Clare was his only close friend. That friendship might
explain why Lloyd, now a rich man, purchased three expensive
Hooven typewriters and had them delivered to Clare’s
shop. Clare is hesitant to accept them, but Lloyd’s
business assistant, Brenda Philips, confirms Lloyd wanted
Clare to have them.
Nathan Grimes,
a famous horror author, is in Star City, hoping to personally
set type and print his collection of poems at the shop Clare
owns with her grandfather, Chester. Chester’s love interest,
Marion, locates the perfect type for Nathan’s use, but
when Nathan disappears, they worry that he, too, has been
murdered. Nathan is fortunately located after suffering an
auto accident, but when a second classmate is found murdered,
the questions keep arising: Why are her classmates being killed?
Could the Hoovens have something to do with Lloyd’s
death? And is Clare next?
I love
Paige Shelton’s Dangerous Type Mystery series. Her stories
are filled with loveable characters, are always captivating
and fast-paced, and there’s just enough plot twists
to keep me guessing to the very end. Clare is sensitive and
caring, yet strong and determined. Jodie’s growing romance
with Adal, Clare’s German apprentice, made me smile,
but what I love most is the growing friendship of all the
characters. They feel like old friends who come for a fascinating
if too short stay, then leave me waiting impatiently for their
return. Comic Sans Murder is fascinating and fast
paced, with charming characters and a riveting mystery sure
to please.
