Ruby Sparks is running her sister's
New Age shop in South Florida. Her main companions are her
dog, Zuri, and her newly adopted cat, Ophelia, whose brother,
Brandon arrives on the scene as well. The cats are able to
understand humans and Ophelia even can interpret Tarot Cards.
When a new client seeks help from the cards to find out if
her employer was murdered, the felines are all in on helping.
Especially because the dead woman was their previous human
mother.
Although I knew things would be okay, I had trouble getting
through the first couple of chapters when the cats were boxed
up and abandoned. In retrospect that is a good thing because
it shows that the author made me care about two of the main
characters immediately.
There's more than one mystery in this cozy mystery, but I
think there is no mystery at all about whether this will be
a hit series. Cozy readers, for the most part, love intelligent
animal companion sleuths and there is potential for several
more books if this first entry is any indication.
I absolutely loved the “Blackcat Bookshop” series
written as Ali Brandon and have high hopes that this series
will develop nicely as well.
Reviewer’s Notes: Author also writes as Ali
Brandon.
