Gemma
Doyle is a Brit transplanted to Cape Cod where she owns the
Sherlock Holmes Bookshop. After a long day and evening at
work, she’s walking her dog, Violet. Violet alerts her
to smoke coming from the museum, the Scarlet House built in
1648. The fire costs the museum almost everything, so Gemma
and her best friend, Jayne agree to host an auction to raise
funds for restoration.
But someone
had it in for the museum board chair, Kathy Lamb. She has
been murdered and Gemma’s boyfriend, Detective Ryan
Ashburton is on the case. Having had a key role in solving
some previous local murders, Gemma is planning to keep out
of this one, but nevertheless, she finds herself investigating.
This
is such an enjoyable book in an enjoyable series. It was nice
to note that Gemma is beginning to work on thinking about
things rather than blurting them out and leaving people feeling
insulted by her harshness.
The mystery
was spun tightly, and I had many different ideas about what
the outcome would be, but I was still surprised at the ending.
Highly
recommended! There’s a lot to love about a Sherlock
Holmes Bookshop Mystery! Five stars.
