A FATAL VINEYARD SEASON is the latest in the Martha's Vineyard Mystery series with J.W. Jackson, an ex-cop living and solving crimes on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard.

When I first started reading, I thought ok, this is a comfortable mystery in a romantic setting with a handsome couple and their two adorable kids enjoying life on a beautiful Island. Not! Half of the handsome couple (Zee) takes the kids (Joshua & Diana the huntress) to her mothers for a visit while the other handsome half (J.W.) stays behind to replace a faucet, which he promised the homeowner he would do. Little did he know just working on a faucet would get him into so much trouble.

The mystery was pretty basic in that I figured it out about 1/2 through the book. Mr. Craig is a talented writer. Having never been to the Vineyard I enjoyed his descriptions of the surrounding beauty. He certainly can bring his characters to life in a bold way, especially those colorful Vegas brothers. I couldn't help but think how interesting things would get if there really was a Alexandro Vegas living at the Vineyard and Bill Clinton met up with him on his next vacation.

Readers beware -- this is not a cozy. I would say with the strong nature of the theme and the colorful language A FATAL VINEYARD SEASON is in the hard-boiled category.
