Third Time Lucky is the story of Phillipa and Nick.  Phillipa is a sassy, headstrong business owner who had a brief relationship with Nick fifteen years earlier.  He broke her heart, and she is not sure she wants any form of a relationship with Nick again.  Nick is a wanderer.  He has just returned to their hometown in Massachusetts to spend time with his grandmother.  Upon his arrival, he finds his grandmother lying dead in a pool of blood. Sticking out of his grandmother's neck is the jewel covered knife that Nick had given his grandmother.  Knowing he has no alibi, Nick hears approaching sirens and flees.  The only place he can think of hiding out is Phillipa's home.  Phillipa does not want to welcome Nick back, but she is unable to say no.  Together they try to unravel the mystery of who murdered Nick's grandmother.

Third Time Lucky is a wonderful tale of unending love that is richly woven with plenty of wit, humor and love. Claire Cross's character, Phillipa, comes across as a Massachusetts version of Stephanie Plum (aka the heroine of Janet Evanovich's series of mysteries).  She is bold, brassy and does not like being told what to do or when to do it, especially if it is her meddling mother trying to arrange dates for her.  I thoroughly enjoyed this story from beginning to end and would love to see Nick and Phil's story continue in more books!
