Another wonderfully written tale by Jen Holling! It takes place in East March, Scotland in 1585. I was so impressed with Ms. Holling's debut novel A TIME TO DREAM that I was looking forward to her next, Forever, My Lady.  Now having read it, I am even more impressed by Ms. Holling's ability to create a place and time where only the reader and characters exists until it's finished. From the first sentence you will find yourself drawn in by the characters as they come to life before your very eyes.  Lady Dixon, a beautiful, strong widow who knows how to fight back and take care of her own. Sir Bryan Hepburn, a mercenary, and once burned in love, finds himself appointed to a place where morals and manners are an after thought. The Earl of Bothwell, a suspected warlock who sent Bryan to East March to solve the mystery of the missing warden. I found each character fascinating, independent and complete.

Although Forever, My Lady is an historical romance, it brought out the mystery buff in me.  As Sir Hepburn attempted to solve the mystery of the missing warden, I found myself sitting up straight and paying full attention with the anticipation of a mystery fanatic. The twist and turns were clever and captivating and kept me guessing. Ms. Holling's  ability to present a mystery is very good; maybe one day we will see her in the historical mystery section of the store.

Forever, My Lady is a superb blend of intrigue and passion!
