     Lissa Massey and Brandon Fall are two young people living near the banks of Dodie Creek in the Ozarks. Brandon yearns to be a preacher, and Lissa yearns to spend her life standing by his side, but when wealthy minister Wardley Stafford sets his sights on Lissa, Brandon, believing that the woman he loves would be happier married to a man who could offer her financial security, breaks the relationship. Vain and self-serving Marla Edith Maggler wants Brandon and does whatever she can to keep him near. A series of misunderstandings combine to convince Lissa and Brandon that they weren't meant for each other after all. Then a shameful secret Reverend Stafford thought was dead and buried is resurrected by a local resident who wants to see his relative given the preaching job that had been promised to Brandon. With everything gone, Brandon begins to lose hope. Just when things look their darkest, the light of love shines through the shadows. Lissa and Brandon find the love they thought was gone, but the wily Marla Edith isn't ready to give up the fight. Lies and deceit swirl around the young couple, threatening the future they've planned together.
