Self Defense
By Elaine Hopper

Elaine Hopper does a great job with this book. Self Defense introduces the reader to Denise Correa, who works in a mall and seems to have the worst luck with a stalker. She tries to take self-defense classes, makes sure that security is always with her, and just tries not to be alone unless absolutely necessary. As with most romances, real-life and within books, Denise makes a fool out of herself when she first meets the man that she eventually falls heads-over-heels in love with.

The opening of this book sucks the reader into the story and continues to keep the reader intrigued. There is a great combination of romance and mystery throughout the book and the romance is careful not to overtake the suspense of the mystery involved. This is a quick read and has a strong plot line. The characteristics of Denise and Hunter are developed but not as well developed as characters in other novels. They do hold their own in this book. The scenery of the book could take place in any town in any well-developed nation.
