Anybody who has read the Brides of Culdee Creek quartet will be wondering what happened to the people in the story next. This novel doesn't tell you that exactly, but it does leap forward to the present day and the arid but successful life of the ranch's latest heiress, Devra MacKay. A cosmetic surgeon in New York, she devotes her time to making others happy although it is a far cry from the work she intended to do, fixing the faces of the deformed and the disfigured. Has she lost her way along with her love of Christ? When she hears that her beloved father has died suddenly from a heart attack she has to go home, where the ranch's formidable supervisor Ross Blackstone is still in charge. The lawyer is gong to have some surprises for both of these sparring partners when he reads Logan's will…

I was thrilled to find out that there was a fifth book in this delightful series and I enjoyed reading Devra and Ross's story. These is a gentle, uplifting book for Christmas and tells of faith lost and faith found, and how people like books, are best not judged by their covers. However, I would have liked the story to be a little longer and more in depth. The two protagonists had a lot to work out and I think there would have been more setbacks and difficulties than the book explores; also it might have been nice to have found our a bit more about life on a modern ranch. It is unusual for me to want a book to be longer so you can tell that I enjoyed what was there. I hope there is another chapter in the Culdee Creek saga soon.
