A Lady of His Own
A Bastion
Club Novel
By Stephanie
Laurens
Charles
St. Austell has been sent home by his former commander to investigate
rumors of spies around his Cornwall home. This was not a problem
for Charles, since he was more than ready to get away from the matchmaking
mothers of the town and their fluff-headed daughters. However, Charles
never expected to find Lady Penny Selborne, doing a little investigating
of her own.
Penny knows something
is going on. When her distant cousin Nicholas keeps returning to
Cornwall, and she finds a room full of jeweled French pillboxes,
she suspects that her father and brother were being paid to pass
information to the French and Nicholas is trying to find out how,
so he can continue. When Charles shows up to investigate, Penny
is unsure as to how much to actually tell him. She knows he is the
one man she can trust, but she is afraid what will happen to her
family, once news gets out that her family may have been spies for
the French.
Now they will work together
to try and uncover a spy ring that looks as if it will implicate
Penny's late father and brother. As they search deeper, danger begins
to unfold as one of Penny's brother's contacts is murdered. They
will soon not only be trying to solve this mystery but also fighting
to save their own lives. With so much mystery around and more murders,
Charles knows only one way to keep Penny safe: to keep her with
him day and night.
As each character's
personality comes to life, you will be unable to put this book down.
Charles is a wonderfully sexy, dangerous hero. Penny is a lady who
is not afraid of anything, she is not like other ladies of the time,
depending on a man for everything. Penny knows how to get things
done for herself. When these two come together, the sparks will
fly. Although they were lovers one time thirteen years before, neither
has ever found the love they long for. Until they realize the reason
is they have always loved each other.
Stephanie Laurens has once
again given us a wonderful read with this third book from The Bastion
Club Series. Having enjoyed reading many Stephanie Laurens books
over the years, I must say this has to be one of my favorites. With
such a well-written magnificently entertaining plot and mystery,
this book will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
With such a captivating hero and heroine, plus superb secondary
characters, this is one book that will definitely be going on the
keeper shelf.
