Bitten & Smitten

by Michelle Rowen

When Sarah Dearly agreed to go on a blind date with Gordon Richards, she never dreamed it would turn into a date from hell. Half dazed, she wakes up being buried alive. Gordon has a psychotic look in his eyes as he adds each shovel full of dirt and explains it is a part of the healing process. Confused by his unexplainable actions and overall intent, she demands to be set free. He helps her out of the pile of dirt all the while rambling on about him being her sire and they will live together for all of eternity. She manages to break free of his clutches and runs straight into the arms of two unknown men. She begs them to help her because her lunatic date has gotten way out of control. What happens next is straight out of a Sci-Fi novel for the two turn on Gordon and plunge a stake through his heart. Before her eyes Gordon's body is turned into a cloud of dust. Not wishing to stick around to find out what they have in store for her, she runs as fast as her legs will carry her. She is unaware of her surroundings or where to go for safety. Her instincts lead her in the direction of a bridge. There she sees what looks like someone who is about to jump. She feels it is the better choice of the two evils she has to choose from and makes her way to the unknown figure.

Thierry de Bennicoeur is a six hundred year old Vampire. His greatest desire is to put an end to his existence. He believes the life he lives is no longer worth living. As he stands precautiously on the edge of the bridge and looks into the murky water far below, he hopes this attempt will end his troubled life and set him free into the hereafter. Unexpectedly, an unknown woman throws herself in his arms; her weight throws them both off balance and plunging straight into the dark river below. Both of them manage to survive the fall, with another failed attempt putting Thierry into a foul mood. From the bite marks on her neck, he realizes she is a newly turned Vampire. When she explains the circumstances that brought them together, he realizes he is her only means of survival. He gifts her with his life blood and agrees to serve as her mentor until she learns the way of her new life. He plans that what he has given her will not come for free. His price is that he will ask for her help in putting an end to his life once and for all.

Vampire fans take note: Michelle Rowen's Bitten and Smitten takes a fresh new contemporary look that cries out for our paranormal treasure chest. This laugh out loud, enchanting book puts a light-hearted, humorous spin that is not often found in other paranormals. Her characters are a true delight that will weave their zany adventures into your very soul. This is the first offering I have had the pleasure of reading by this author, and I look forward to seeing more forthcoming works. An author that is able to blend comedy, paranormal, and romance all in one tight package is a true gem. Very highly recommended.
