Call
Waiting
By Michelle Cunnah
Emma Taylor's a woman in her earlier 30's who is trying to let her man, Jack, know that she is ready to move up to the next step after being with him for eight months. She is also trying to focus on her career. Emma's desire for marriage interferes with her life in many levels, and of course, Jack's new attractive female boss doesn't help Emma's situation either.
Ms. Cunnah tells
Emma's story creatively, starting off each chapter with Emma's To
Do List, which lets readers know what is coming up. In the chapters,
she time frames the actions of Emma and her anxieties. Emma sometimes
appears unrealistic, which adds to the humor of Call Waiting.
This reader laughed a few times at Emma's antics and felt sorry
for her whiny personality. Emma, at times, feels that she cannot
compete with Jack's new boss and tries hard not to bother her friends
with her relationship concerns. Instead of discussing her concerns
with Jack, she mopes and tries to figure out other ways of dealing
with the problems. Overall, Call Waiting is an enjoyable
quickly-read book.
