Ex and the Single Girl

by Lani Diane Rich

Portia Fallon comes home on Valentine's Day to find a "Dear John" letter written on the fly-leaf of her lover's new book. Her pity party is interrupted by an emergency call from her mother, Mags. She has thrown out her back and wants Portia to rush home. She needs her to help run the family bookstore for the summer.

The only thing Portia has on the burner is a PhD dissertation that is quickly going nowhere. Portia decides that she can just as easily not work on it back home while helping her mom as she can in the big city. So she heads home, only to be greeted at the door by a flying hug from her miraculously recovered mother.

When confronted with her amazing recovery, Mags flippantly replies that of course that was only a ruse to get Portia home!"

The reality is that Portia's crazy family has decided that what Portia needs is a one night stand. They've even picked out the man. And what a man he is!

Ian Beckett is the new guy in town. He's a famous author and boy is he sexy! (think Colin Firth.)

When Ian is invited to Portia's welcome-home celebration, the family make their wishes painfully clear. Portia refuses to be party to such an embarrassingly obvious ploy, but her family doesn't understand the meaning of the word NO.

Knowing this, Portia enlists Ian's help in faking the women out. He stays the night, but nothing happens. Well, nothing more earth shattering than the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

As things begin to heat up with Ian, who should appear? None other than Peter, the repentant no-good ex, bearing a big, shiny engagement ring.

This story draws you deeply into the hearts of its characters. When Portia cried over all the men in her life who have left her, I cried too. When she was happy, I couldn't stop smiling. And I wanted to kidnap her best friend and make her mine. This book is amazing! I can't wait to read more works by this outstanding author.
